The Founding Journey (1976): The Birth of Dubai National Theatre

  • In the mid-1970s, with the beginning of the cultural and artistic renaissance in the United Arab Emirates, a group of pioneers of thought and drama in Dubai came together with a unified vision: to establish a theatre that would represent the Emirate’s national voice.
  • Dubai National Theatre was founded by this distinguished group to be a leading platform for presenting serious theatrical works that address community issues, encourage local talent, and actively contribute to enriching the UAE’s cultural scene. The building phase was the most difficult and the most inspiring, as the goals were shaped and the artistic approaches were set—approaches the theatre still follows to this day.
